I’m just gonna come right out and say this- there are times when our public school systems absolutely suck. I haven’t ever heard the Allied Powers called the Entente Powers before. Like seriously high school history class, you repeat the same information every year, and you couldn’t add this one small tidbit? I’m also kinda pissed that countries are so hypocritical, that’s one of my major pet peeves. Now that that is over, let me rant about the stupidity of people. Did Stalin and his people seriously believe that the starvation of the people was a cover up for the plotting of the destruction of socialism? Like seriously! Oh yes, I’m gonna let my entire family starve to death and beg you for food every chance I get, just to destroy this country. That is the worst idea I have ever heard of.
The insistences of cannibalism seriously creeped me out. I swear I’m gonna have nightmares of my mom standing over me with a knife for at least a week. It was interesting to me that even though it was common practice in order for people to stay alive, it was not accepted at all and done behind closed doors.
Not to approve of anything the USSR and Germany did, I find it very strategic for them to use the events of the other country as a cover up for what they are doing. It was also smart of the USSR to make their trials public, to show the outside world that people are fighting to “overthrow” the government. I mean, this led to other countries not looking into their activities too much, and gave them justification (no matter how immoral those “confessions” were).
I find it interesting that Poles were more persecuted than Jews (and also really mad that high school history only mentions Jews, other people died too you know!). What I want to know is if this is by percentage or by number, because there are a lot more Soviet Poles than there are German Jews.
What I want to know is how did the USSR do all of this without the outside world knowing? Also, did people actually believe that the USSR entered Poland on a “peacekeeping mission”? Are they that stupid?
If you don’t learn anything from this, know that invading Russia in the winter is STUPID!!!!! Seriously, Hitler made so many stupid mistakes, such as trying to use Russia as a colony instead of as an ally, not having their allies help them in the invasion, and not have WINTER CLOTHES IN THE WINTER!!!!!
I’m a big fan of this band called Sabaton, which is a Swedish band that sings about historical events, here are some of my favorite songs about this time period:
